본 연구에서는 김정진(2007)의 연구에서 제안된 방안을 경험적으로 뒷받침하기 위해 정신장애인을 위한 지원교육(Supported Education) 모델 개발을 제시하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 정신장애인의 학업수행과 관련한 문헌들을 검토하였고, 지원교육에 관한 목적, 효과, 실증적 근거, 지원교육 모형비교 등 지원교육모델의 개념과 과정을 분석하고, 논리모델을 근거로 한 지원교육모델 개발의 시도 및 모델도출의 정당성을 제시하고자 하였다. 곧, 정신장애인이 제도권 내 장애인 교육의 권리에서 소외되고 있는 상황에서 현실에 맞는 적극적인 교육재활을 통해 사회적 낙인감 해소와, 교육의 기회를 확대하기 위해 지원교육모델 제시를 통해 학교와 정신보건 현장의 지원교육 서비스 체계의 구축을 시도한 점에 큰 의의가 있다. 연구결과 실천적 함의로는 정신보건 기관 차원에서의 학업지원 프로그램의 준비와 개발, 지역사회 자원을 연계한 장학금 유치 또는 연구프로젝트에 관한 특별지원 모색, 적극적인 사례관리를 통한 개인적, 환경적 문제 개입 등을 제안하였다. 또한 정책적 함의로는 교육대상자로서의 권리에 관한 옹호 및 교육, 타 장애영역과의 연계, 현장 정신보건기관들과 학계 공동으로 정신장애인의 교육과 관련한 다양한 모델 연구 등을 제안하였다.
The study attempted to present the model developments of Supported Education for the mentally challenged to experimental support the plan proposed by Kim Jeung-Jin (2007). For this, we checked over all of related documents with record, analyzed the concepts and processes of supported education model, e.g. purposes, effects and positive basis about the supported education, comparison with supported education model and attempted to present the justice of a model extraction. In other words, the mentally challenged are under the neglected from a right of training for the disabled into the law, it is significance in a part of attempts the building of supported education service system through the present of the supported education model to increase the chance of training and withdraw a social estrangement through the aggressive training and rehabilitation to reality. In a connotative sense, this study proposed that preparation and development of supported education program in the mental health service, inducement the scholarship connected the resources of community or consideration the special funding about the study project, intervention to the personal and environmental problems through the aggressive case management. In a politic sense, this study also proposed that protection or training about the right on the education recipient, connection with other obstacle field, study of various models about education of the people with mental illness in association with actual mental health organization and the academic world.
