This study was performed to investigate the affects of Mindful Self-Compassion Parenting(MSCP) program
for the parents of children with ADHD on parental stress, parental competency, depression, and
psychological well-being. Twelve parents participated in the program. They were assessed on parental
stress, parental efficacy, depression, psychological well-being measure, mindfulness scale, and self-compassion
scale on a pre-post basis. This program consisted 6 sessions(2 hours per week) in group format.
Participants showed improvements over time on several measures, especially, parental efficacy, psychological
well-being, and self- compassion scales. This study proves that mindful self-compassion parenting program
is effective in enhancing parental efficacy, psychological well-being, and self-compassion. This program is a
new attempt for applying mindfulness meditation and self-compassion training to the parents of children
with ADHD. And this study also provides a experiential evidence at the time of which parental education
and parenting training is more empathized than ever before. Results from this pilot study indicate that
parents of children with ADHD can obtain positive benefits from the program. A controlled trial to
confirm of this pilot study is now required. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.
