This study attempts to analyze the contents, the characteristics, and the
process of the educational reform committed by the Government-General in Korea
and to find out the significance of the educational reform from the viewpoint of
the educational history.
The educational reform was a drastic and comprehensive one which changed
all the domains of Korean educational systems. It was the basic steps for the
colonial policy resulted in the intensification of racial discrimination, the
deterioration of the educational system and institution, the regulation of school
curricula, and uniformed education,
The procedure of educational reform was strongly regulated and controlled
bureaucratically through the hierarchical administrative system topped the
Government of General. The rationale of the educational reform was to consolidate
the environment suitable for colonialism. Thus it did not take into consideration
the Korean education status at that time.
From the viewpoint of the education history, main contents of the educational
reform were the consolidation of the colonial educational system, the controlled
system of the centralized education, the priority of the academic career to
discriminate in favor of official and public schools, and the obliteration of the
Korean national identity and national education from the Korean people.
