A cappella in Korea has progressed side by side with diverse development of modern music culture. A cappella can be artistic and profitable at the same time, can express music of varied genre in its melody and can make a use of modern sound technology. It also has popular singing style and spontaneity which appeal to modern people. It can integrate elements of popular music as well as ethnic music. Yet, a cappella is also capable of expressing the harmony and form of classical music in an easy and fashionableway. Therefore, compared to its short history, it is spreading quickly throughout the Asian countries. At this point, it would be a meaningful work to investigate the beginning, the process of development, and the prospect of a new musical genre, so called a cappella, in the five Asian countries-Japan, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong kong. Through this study, in order to compare a cappella of Korea with those of the 5 other countries and get the chance of development, the following inquires must be fulfilled. 1. Need to provide with various opportunities to learn a cappella.
