본 연구는 중등교사 임용 영어 논술시험 문항의 타당도를 검증하고, 수험자의 목소리와 전 문가의 의견을 같이 규합하여 타당도 있는 논술 문항이 무엇인지에 대하여 진지하게 논의하 고자 기획되었다. 본 연구는 기존 출제된 논술유형 중에서 부적합한 유형이 없는지를 검토하 고, 각 논술 문항에 대한 학습자들의 반응과 전문가들의 의견을 조사하였다. 연구 참여자로서 는 영어교육을 공부중인 재학생, 졸업생, 교육대학원 학생 등 총 89여명의 예비교원들을 대상 으로 하였으며 2인의 채점전문가, 그리고 영어학/영문학/영어교육학의 각 분야 2명씩 총 6명 의 전문가들이 참여하였다. 연구결과, 찬반논술형, 보고서형, 요약형, 실용문형, 다지문 통합형 의 5가지 유형 모두 임용논술에 적합한 유형으로 판정되었으나, 찬반논술형의 난이도가 지나 치게 쉬워서 다지문 통합형 같은 신유형이 출제될 필요성이 제기되었다. 예비교원들을 대상 으로 한 설문조사 결과 학생들이 가장 어려운 전공영역으로 영어학을, 가장 어려운 유형으로 서 다지문통합형을 꼽았으며, 영어교육의 높은 배점에 공감하였다. 그리고, 예비교원들은 주 로 지문의 복잡성과 길이, 난이도, 구인타당도와 같은 영역들에 걸쳐 심도깊은 비평을 남겼다. 전문가들의 비평에서는 일반영어와 영어교육 지식과의 관계 설정, 영어학 문항의 타당성을 평가하는 기준, 영문학 논술문항의 바람직한 성격 등에 대한 논의가 담겼다.
The present study aims to explore the validity of argumentative-essay test for the Secondary School Selection Test(SSST). For the purpose, 89 pre-service English teachers, two expert raters, and six content experts participated in the study. First, in order to investigate whether any misfitting rhetorical pattern exists or not, the researcher conducted FACETS analysis. As a result, all rhetorical patterns came into fitting category, which meant that all rhetorical pattern used in the existing secondary school selection test reliably measured the test-takers' writing performance. However, con & pro type of writing was judged to be easiest and therefore to fail to have proper discriminatory power. Therefore, the researcher raised the need of a new writing task such as integrativeness of multiple reading into writing in replace of the pro & con type of writing. Secondly, the survey analysis enlightened that pre-service teachers regarded English education as the most important domain in SSST, that survey respondents pointed out English linguistics as the most difficult domain and general English as the easiest one, and that they criticized the test items mainly in terms of the length or complexity of the given test prompts, the discrimination, and construct of test items. Finally, the professionals provided the comment about the optimal relationship between general English and English education, the criteria for selection of appropriate test items for measuring English linguistics, and the components that the test items of English literature should measure.
