The purpose of this study was 1) to analyse variables which would affect GINUE(Gyeongin
National University of Education) students' evaluation of teaching and its degree of impact on the
result of their teaching evaluation, and 2) to provide ideas for improving instruction including
evaluation methods. This study raised research questions as follows: 1) What would be the most
influential variables to affect the result of teaching evaluation in current evaluation system, 2) How
did the variables affecting students' evaluation influence the quality of instruction, 3) What were the
solutions and suggestions on the improvement of instruction and evaluation system that college
students and instructors presented. For this study, surveys and interviews were executed.
The findings and recommendations of this study were as follows: 1) The influential variables in
students' evaluation of teaching were type of sophomore transfer (general, special) and grade, both
belonging to student variables. The other variables belonging to subject and environment variables
were found to have no impact. It implies that, excepting type of sophomore transfer (general,
special) and grade, abilities and attitude of instructors in charge could have more influence on
students' evaluation than other variables. 2) College students expressed some complaints on the
amount and depth of content dealt with in instruction, and length of time spent on group activities,
implying that these variables might have affected the quality of instruction somewhat negatively. 3)
College students and instructors agreed that, in order to improve instruction, students should have a
great deal of enthusiasm in their class participation, instructors should prepare their lecture with
sincerity, and the school authorities should provide students with rights to select more courses on
their own, establish an organization in charge of providing information on excellent lectures and
upgrading and maintaining instructional devices, and improve university evaluation system.
