The purpose of this study is to compare characteristics of visualization process between experts and novices. The methods and procedures of the study involved the following steps: (a) Through the literature reviews of visualization process, the concept of visualization and the aspect of understanding, design, presentation were examined. (b) NVivo was used as collecting and analyzing tool in order to qualitative and quantitative analysis. (c) Collected data were analyzed. The subjects of the study were three experts and three novices. While participants were performing the visualization tasks, the data were generated. The generated data has been collected by means of audio and video device. Findings from NVivo code analysis were as follows: Although both experts and novices used the visual strategy during their visualization process, there were significant qualitative differences. Whereas experts used visualization strategies such as simple abstract, diagram, metaphor, analogy, table, and so on, novices used the strategies such as paragraphic abstract, sophisticated abstract, and tables. Unlike novices who mainly focused on analysis and conceptualization or the tasks, experts were utilizing diverse visualization strategies. The findings suggested that education on visualization for pre-service teachers should focus on use of metaphor, diagram or table instead of precise summary on contents.
