This study explored new curriculum models for the university of education and developed future-oriented curricula reflecting the curriculum paradigm shift for the colleges, complying with the pursuit and request of the Korean society in the 21st century. For the philosophical bases of the future elementary school curriculum were suggested practical philosophy, initiative and self-confident teachers, communication with various groups keeping pace with the advancement of information technology and mass media, integration of life and knowledge, critical adaptation to technocracy, and harmonious experience of globalism and localism. Based on these philosophical foundations and the results from in-depth interviews and Delphi method, this study suggested two models as curriculum tactics which are applicable and practicable for mid to long range period of time. In one model, elementary school teachers instruct only one subject and is in charge of one class as well. And in the other model, the curricula for lower grades and for higher grades are separately applied, and teachers for higher grades instruct only one subject and are in charge of one class. Finally, the required policies for the successful application of these future-oriented curricula for the university of education were suggested on the level of the colleges and of the nation, respectively.
