The purpose of this study was to analyze the teachers's perception on the localization of education. For the purpose of this study the researcher examined the conceptual characteristics of the localization of education in its relation to the local educational autonomy system and decentralization of educational control. The perceptions were specified in this study as the need, reason, current state, desirable direction and the effects of education localization. The demographic variables consisted of the following factors; age, teaching career, gender, the type of institution, school level and location of school. Five hundred teachers(including educational administrator) in Kyungnam province were surveyed through a mailed questionnaire, which is composed of 22 question items. The number of returned answer sheets was 351, and 346(69.0%) of them were avaliable for data analysis. Such statistics as analysis of variance and analysis of frequency were implemented to explore the significant differences in the demographic variables. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the reason which localization of education should be implemented is that since teachers can manage class according to students' needs, teachers can improve their teaching effectiveness. Second, according to the analysis of the state of education localization, the teachers who were in elementary school, attending in rural district school, and had more teaching experience showed that they have used local material for classes. Third, most of teachers recognized the need of localization of education. The desirable direction of education localization should be based on the national curriculum, and the region level of localization based on the not city but province. And it is needed to participate for teachers and educational administrators to develop the curriculum for localization for education. Therefore, to achieve localization of education successfully it is recommended that educational authority prepare effective educational policy which improve the system of entrance examination and provide the training for professional development.
