In order to generate positive synergy in collaborative relation between art
subject and arts education for schools, there should be the extended research on
the pedagogy of each art genre from the context of school education. This study
starts with the acknowledgment of the importance of providing in-depth aesthetic
experience in schools by developing the domain-specific pedagogical content and
methods of different arts. Thus, this study investigates design education, which is
closely intertwined with art subject, for the purpose of improving the practice of
design education, and Arts and Culture Education for schools. In consideration of
the National Art Curriculum, the direction of design education that differs from
the design units included in art textbooks is searched through the examination of
literatures on Arts and Culture Education and design education. Based on the
literature review, the model of design education of Arts and Culture Education is
proposed so as to provide the framework that artist teachers can use in developing
their own design program in schools.
