The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of laughter therapy on systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure,
fasting blood sugar, geriatric depression, and geriatric quality of life by applying the laughter therapy for 8 weeks for women
aged over 65 years are classified as high risk for depression. Subjects recruited to meet the selection criteria in the Mental
Health Center of K City, Gyeonggi Province, they were randomly divided into control group and experimental group. For data
analysis, this study was conducted ANCOVA using SPSS 20.0, and significant level was 0.05. As a result of this study, laughter
therapy lowered systolic blood pressure(F=12.68, p=0.001), fasting blood sugar(F=6.942, p=0.013), and geriatric depression(F=4.912,
p=0.033) of depressive elderly women, while having improved geriatric quality of life(F=13.036, p=0.001). In conclusion, this
research suggests a possibility that laughter therapy can being a positive effects on blood pressure, blood sugar, and geriatric
depression and geriatric quality of life to depressive elderly seniors. Given the situation that the increase of the number of the
depressive elderly has become a serious social problem which requires an urgent solution, it is necessary to do more researches
by using a variety of scientific grounds of laughter therapy.
