This study is on the individualized education program(IEP) which is being
emphasized in domestic and foreign special education field. IEP is one of the
representative education methods of education for students with special needs. There
are relatively many researches on the plan and practice of IEP compare to other
researches. However studies on the evaluation of IEP are still insignificant. Therefore,
this study was intended to strengthen the basics for evaluating IEP in the future by
analyzing the practice of IEP in Korea and trend of preceding researches to prepare
the foundation of quality management of IEP. To do so, this study selected and
analyzed total of 72 studies that accord with research purpose among retrieved
academic treatises through academic information service of Korea Education and
Research Information Service. As a result, it was identified that 3 studies on IEP
were announced for the first time in 1998 and teachers, students, and parents were
the main research subject. It was seen that majority of the research used servey
research whereas only a few research involved actual experimental research. There
survey researchs consisted of three main factor; general survey, planning and
application of IEP. However, What are need the major is the actual evaluation of
IEP's quality. As described above, it was verified that the analysis result of precedent
studies was concentrated in a certain territory, and there have been insufficient
practical researches to improve IEP or quality of IEP as there was insufficient
number of experimental researches or related researches. Therefore, it would be
necessary to devise appropriate education for students with special needs based on
the research on quality assessment and management of IEP.
