This study aimes at examining closely of the influence in Korean modern physical education by enlightening how the national physical activities of Hapanese colonial period coped with and developed to the periodical situation at that time after 1910 and the unfolding courses of physical activities that the missionaries distributed in christian schools from the civilization period of 1876 to Korean-Japanese annexation. for this, we have reviewed the literatures of papers, modern physical education history, education history while extracting the historical facts citing literature method mainly. The contents are as follow.
First, we reviewed the periodical background at that time the civilized missionaries came to enter the nation, and through the physical education they have distributed and their missionary policy, we have reviewed its influence on modern physical activities.
Second, we have reviewed the infouence the national physical activities at this time had on our country\'s modern sports activity and Japanese colonial physical policies.
After the opening of the port in 1876, as the Western culture has been flew in at full scale, modren schools by missionaries were established here and there in the whole nation, and traditional physical education came to change into gymnastics, game and sports. We can see that the reason why the christianity could settle fast in Korea by missionaries was that it approached making ahead of the technology and civilization of the West ghrough education and medical missions.
Firtst, it was the ultimate goal of the Christian missionaries who entered Korea at the time of civilization for the people to get salvation through christiannity, but it chose the missionary methoed through education and dedication than the direct mission. At that time, the induction and distribution of each modern sports in missionary schools of the missionaries affected much to the development of body and Korean modern physical education development.
As we see the influence the national physical activities had on the modern physical education development in Japanese colonial period, the national physical activities at the military ruling
period, first, the physical activities of YMCA which normally accepted the modern sports and put effort to improve the physical strength of the nation, and second it was the monement to maintain and prserve national physical activities through the resurrection of archery, fiding on a swing , ssireum which are the original sports of our nation under the situation that modern physical games are monopolized to only one people, and third , oppressing the single sthletes in concrete sports games it was the folw that encouraged national constiusness to the people of the colony, and fourth, the national physical activities of students studying in Tokyo.
