The purpose of this study was to examine the relative potency of successful intelligence, and thinking styles to influence the academic performance, based on the Sternberg(1996)'s theory. Up to the present, theses studies have been studied separated concepts. Especially, based on the previous studies, this study was selected analytic and creative intelligence in the successful intelligence, and legislative, hierarchic, and internal thinking style in the thinking styles. The results showed that, firstly, the analytic intelligence was higher relationship(.71~.78) with academic performance than the other variables. The creative intelligence was relationship(.43~.50) with academic performance. The thinking styles were low relationship(.22~.29) with academic performance (except with the relationship legislative thinking styles and science .55). The relationship between the successful intelligence and thinking styles was revealed low(.25~.32). These results was similar to the previous studies. Secondly, the analytic and creative intelligence in the successful intelligence were found to be higher the influence on the academic performance than thinking styles by the multiple regression analysis. The result of correlation analysis was supported by this result. On the basis of this study, the educational implication is drawn that to improve the students' academic performance in the educational field is needed to support the students' analytic and creative intelligence in the successful intelligence and various thinking styles.
