Purpose: This study was done to identify the predictive relationship of emotional intelligence and organizational
commitment on geriatric nursing practice of nurses in long-term care hospitals. Methods: Participants were 96
nurses who were working in long-term care hospitals in D city and K province. Data were collected through structured
questionnaires from August 6 to August 27, 2014. Data analysis included one-way ANOVA, independent
t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression using the IBM SPSS/WIN 20.0 program.
Results: The significant predictors for geriatric nursing practice were emotional intelligence and age. These factors
explained 54% of the variance. Emotional intelligence explained 47% (ß=.48, p<.001) of the variance in geriatric
nursing practice. Conclusion: These results suggest that emotional intelligence improvement programs should
be focused on developments to improve the quality of geriatric nursing practice.
