This paper analyzes how the communal classroom instruction of teacher and the careful
classroom behavior of student affect the school violence. Specifically, this study sets the
communal classroom instruction of teacher, the careful classroom behavior of student, and the
school violence (bullying behavior, experience of school victimization, outsider behavior,
bullying assistant behavior, and defending behavior of victim) as key variables and empirically
test the casual relationship among them. We construct a survey data set collected from a sample
of 1,190 elementary school student in the 6th grade from 12 elementary school located in
Busan and Yang-San. In particular, we employ questionnaire that consists of a number of
questions regarding the communal classroom instruction of teacher, the careful classroom
behavior of student, and the school violence.
The results are as follows. First, the communal classroom instruction of teacher exerted a
positive and significant direct effect on the careful classroom behavior of student. Second, the
communal classroom instruction of teacher had a negative and significant direct effect on the
experience of school victimization, outsider behavior, bullying assistant behavior. Third, the
effect of the communal classroom instruction of teacher on the school violence is mediated by
the careful classroom behavior of students. Specifically, the communal classroom instruction of
teacher had a negative and significant indirect effect on bullying behavior, experience of school
victimization, outsider behavior, bullying assistant behavior but had a positive and significant
indirect effect on the defending behavior of victim. Fourth, the careful classroom behavior of
student had a negative and significant direct effect on the bullying behavior, experience of school victimization, outsider behavior, bullying assistant behavior but exerted a positive and
significant indirect effect on the defending behavior of victim. Based on the results, we suggest
that the communal classroom instruction of elementary school teacher and the careful classroom
behavior of student can be a way of preventing school violence.
