The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of the intervention of
empowerment on the quality of life in elderly person with minor dementia. To this end,
this study reviewed empowerment theories and developed an empowerment practice
program for elderly person with minor dementia using a focus group including the
practitioners of welfare for the elderly, professor specialized in welfare for the elderly,
elderly person with dementia. and caregiver for elderly person with dementia. In
addition, the subjects consisting of a test group (n=8) and a control group (n=8) were
selected to verify the empowerment practice program. The analysis results showed
statistically significant increases in empowerment and the quality of life for the test
group after implementing the program, but no statistically significant differences in
empowerment and the quality of life for the control group. Therefore, the empowerment
practice program developed by this study was confirmed to be highly effective in
improving empowerment and the quality of life for elderly person with minor dementia.
In addition, this study has practical implications in term of not only its developed
program's aid in improving the actual quality of life in elderly person with minor
dementia, but also suggesting the basis for the intervention of empowerment by
evaluating the effectiveness of the empowerment intervention program.
