Professor emeritus Sangho Chang`s Discipline and education is a long and great intellectual epic or odyssey and shows a model of academic masterpiece. He earnestly pursue the answers of such questions as "What is a discipline?" and "What is education?" However, he does not give clear answers to those questions and reserve conclusions as Socrates and Plato did. He suggests a new paradigm of educational research with very creative ideas. That is, he proposes the intrinsic principles of education and educational epistemology as their methodology as an alternative approach to the current school-oriented research. He tries to build the discipline of educology as a pure science and neglects the applied side of this discipline. And it is not clear in his books if the nature of educology is a human or social science. Furthermore, he does not imply how to do empirical, objective, and scientific studies in his ten new domains of educational research. However, generally speaking, his books are one of great masterpieces in the history of 200 years of educational research and lift self-esteem of Korean educology.
