The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of emotional coaching group counseling on the sociality of low - income children. The subjects were 35 low-income elementary students in grades 5 to 6, 17 in the experimental group and 18 in the control group. The emotional coaching group counseling program consisted of 13 sessions, including activities such as reading emotion at every session, and was conducted for 13 weeks, once a week. To analyze the data, SPSS 21.0 (windows version), a statistical program for social science, was used and an independent sample T test was conducted to verify the difference of sociability scores between the two groups. The results of the study are summarized as follows. The emotional coaching program was found to have a significant effect on the improvement of the sociality of the experimental group children, and it showed that the five sub - domains of sociality were significant in terms of compliance, independence, cooperation, diligence and sociability. This study examined the effect of emotional coaching program on low - income children, in contrast to the previous studies that examined the effects of emotional coaching group counseling mainly on general children. This suggests that emotional coaching can be used to enhance social skills as a result of emotional coaching that is effective not only in understanding, emotional expression, and control of one s emotions but also in interpersonal skills. Based on these results, we propose to actively use emotional coaching group counseling to improve the sociality of low - income children in schools and counseling sites.
