The purpose of this study was to contribute to the improvement of the quality of the lives of the adults with intellectual disabilities as exploring the caregiver’s experiences represented in the process of supporting the independent living of the adults with intellectual disabilities. Five caregivers of the adults with intellectual disabilities were selected as research participants and the data were collected through in-depth interviews. The data which were transcribed created conceptualization, encoding, sub-themes and core themes through coding system and drew children supporting process of caregivers, difficulty and overcome of caring, needs about various supporting as contents of the result. That were, the caregiving experiences in the independent living of the adults with intellectual disabilities were in three meanings: ‘necessity and realization about independence living support, awareness of limitation by facing of caregiver-self and support of various areas’. The caregivers said that permanency planning and welfare for the disabled should be balanced with the social system that can receive various supports and assistances. In conclusion, in order to support the independent living of the adults with intellectual disabilities, it needed the continuous and repetitive education on the independent living from the school age and a wide range of attentions and supports besides the family.
