The purpose of this study was to investigate the elderly s capacity to manipulate the wheelchair, the level of self-confidence, the frequency of wheelchair skills practice, and the safe use and education of wheelchair users, and to provide a wheelchair for independent and safe use. Method : This study was conducted on 70 elderly people aged 65 years or older who were living in Seoul from February 1, 2017 to March 10, 2017, using a structured questionnaire to conduct a 1: 1 visiting questionnaire. Result : The results of the analysis showed that ‘transferring from a wheelchair to a chair was common high in manipulation capacity, self – confidence frequency of operation, and in the skill items requiring continuous strength such as ‘Ascends and Descends low curb , ‘Ascends and Descends steep incline’ And the level of performance was low. In the case of wheelchair accident experience, 97.1% answered No , but 77.1% answered No in the experience using wheelchair education and training. 60% responded to the need for training and training in using wheelchairs, and education was required in order of cautions training , control of wheelchair components , and operation skill training . Conclusion : In order to increase the use of independent wheelchairs, it is necessary to provide a customized support system such as evaluation of level of use through experts and education on wheelchair use. In the future, it will be necessary to develop a standardized evaluation tool for wheelchair use level and skills evaluation.
