This study identified the characteristic of people with a picky eating behavior, who restrain food variation to an inappropriate level due to psychological or physical reasons and eat a small amount of food. In order to develop a scale, we surveyed 154 adults, who live in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, and selected 83 preliminary questions after evaluation of 8 counseling experts. Then, we carried out the secondary survey among 188 males and 122 females and analyzed an exploratory factor analysis based on the survey data. As a result of the analysis, 21 picky eating questions were selected. Then, we did a survey consisted of picky eating scale, DEBQ, and intuitive eating scale among 443 adults to confirm the suitability of 5 factor model with selected 21questions. The extracted sub-factors of picky eating scale were five factors - food neophobia, restraining food variation, restraining quantity of food, insisting healthy food, and absence of interest in food. To confirm validity of picky eating scale, construct reliability and average variance extracted (AVE) were calculated by measured value, which is based on structure equation model analysis. Thereafter, correlation analyses between picky eating scale and other eating behavior related scale were calculated and identified their relationships. Finally, limitations of the study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
