The purpose of this study is to investigate the differences in institutional role, perceived competence and education needs among counselors according to their education level. In this study, 329 counselors and 32 directors who are working in youth counseling center, school counseling center, and university counseling center, in four areas (Gyeongsang, Cholla, Chungcheong, Seoul/Gyeonggi) conducted questionnaires. The questionnaire was composed of 7 job areas and 12 sub-areas, taking into account the national competency standard items covering the tasks of the target organization. As a result of the study, there was little difference in the overall role performance between the educational levels. On the other hand, there was a significant difference in perceived competence. The counselors attending the master s degree showed that their performance ability was lower than the other counselors. The educational needs of the counselors at the master s level were relatively higher. Directors more highly evaluated the performance of the graduate school counselors than undergraduate school counselors in all tasks.
