본 연구는 소외계층 영재의 특성을 이해하고 소외계층 영재들을 위한 영재교육프로그램의 현황과 앞 으로의 과제를 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 특정한 집단의 일원이기 때문에 영재학생으로서 판별되거나 영재교육 현장에 배치되어 교육프로그램에 참여할 기회가 제한되는 소외영재들의 특징과 국내 외 소외계층 영재교육 프로그램의 특징을 살펴보고, 소외계층영재들의 특성에 적합한 교육프로그램으로서 갖추어야할 주요 특징이 무엇인지를 확인하였다. 소외집단별 영재들의 특성을 분류하였고 이들의 특성 에 적합한 효과적인 영재교육프로그램을 개발하고 운용하는 데 적합한 지침을 제공하는데 본 연구의 의의가 있다.
Disadvantaged gifted students have been a topic of considerable interest in gifted education domain. The gifted edcation and gifted educatinon programs have to reflect the rich diversity of countries. This research examines the disadvantaged gifted student\'s-by virtue of being members of certain groups in our society, are markedly less likely to be identified as gifted and placed in programs for gifted students. The education system aims to nurture every student and help all students discover their talents, realize their full potential, and develop a passion for their life. Therefore, disadvantaged gifted students must be stretched to realize their potential, and equally importantly, to be nurtured so that they will take their place in society later on as morally upright and responsible individuals.
