This paper aims at revealing one of the distinctive feature in Korean oral poetry, especilally in its composition.
The main research material of this paper is Cheung-san-beul-gok, very well known Korean oral poetry work originated in Koryo Dynasty. I want to make a model of distinctive style in Korean oral poetry in connection with Korean language.
Literature is a kind of art which takes advantage of language, so literary works are deeply related with its language. And so Korean literary works are deeply related with Korean language. The first chapter of Cheung-san-beul-gok is based on the post word ‘Sal-eu-ri(살어리)’. The first line of Cheung-san-beul-gok is the post word itself and second line is ‘sal-eu-ri/rat-ta : 살어리 랏다’, and the third line is ‘cheung-san-e/sal-eu-ri/rat-ta : 쳥산(靑山)애 살어리 랏다’ and the last line is ‘meul-uy-rang-ta-rae-rang-meug- go/cheung-san-e/sal-eu-ri/rat-ta : 멀 위랑 래랑 먹고 쳥산(靑山)애 살어리랏다’.
We can find that each line of Cheung-san-beul-gok is extended to the left side. To extend to the left side in first chapter of Cheung-san-beul-gok is based on the distinctive feature that Korean language is left branching language.
In addition to this, each lines connected with each other. To the brief, their relation is addition and pile. The style of left branching and addition and pile appears at the position of first half, it means that the beginning of a oral poetry should be typical and clear to remember more easily.
