본 연구에서는 통합학급에서의 특수교육보조원 활용 실태와 특수교육보조원에 대한 통합학급 교사의 인식 및 요구를 분석하였다. 인천광역시에서 특수교육보조원을 활용하는 통합학급교사 133명을 대상으로, 통합학급에서의 특수교육보조원 활용 실태, 특수교육보조원 활용 효과에 대한 인식, 그 효과에 대한 인식의 통합학급 교사 배경변인별 차이, 특수교육보조원 활용에 대한 요구 등을 조사하였다. 주요 연구결과는 첫째, 대부분의 특수교육보조원은 관련 자격이 없고, 특수학급에 배치되어 있으며, 주로 비정기적인 만남을 통해 통합교사와 협의를 하고 있었다. 주로 협의하는 내용은 부적응행동 수정 방법이었다. 둘째, 특수교육보조원 활용 효과에 대해서는 대체로 만족하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 특수교육보조원 활용 관련 요구 측면에서 통합학급 교사는 \'문제행동 지도를 위하여 학생 생활지도에 대한 기초적인 이해 및 기술\'의 자질을 갖춘 전문대졸 학력의 특수교육보조원에게 문제행동 개선 지원을 가장 기대하고 있었다. 또한, 성공적인 통합교육을 위해서는 통합학급 교사와 특수학급 교사의 상호 협력 체계 구축이 가장 필요한 것으로 나타났다.
This study analyzed the demands and recognition of general education classroom teachers on the special education paraeducator system. A total of 133 general education teachers from Incheon province taking charge of special education paraeducators in their inclusive classrooms participated in this study. They answered items on the current status of the paraeducator system, their perceptions on paraeducators, their opinions on proper certification criteria for being a paraeducator and their roles, training and placing paraeducators, utilizing and managing paraeducators, and their demands on paraeducators. Teachers perceived that the paraeducator system is necessary for completing various inclusion tasks. Teachers also demanded that paraeducators must have basic understanding and skills in managing problem behaviors with college level diploma at least. It seemed to be necessary for successful inclusion to construct a cooperation system between classroom teachers and paraeducators.
