청각학은 기초과학과 달리 응용학문으로서 사회적 필요성에 의해서 시작된 학문이다. 따라서 각 나라마다 역사적 배경과 다른 학문과의 연계성과 밀접한 관계를 지니며 발전해 왔으며, 이러한 이유로 청각학의 시작과 제도, 교육과 정들은 조금씩 다른 양상을 보인다. 다른 나라의 청각학을 이해하는 것은 우리나라의 청각학을 이해를 돕고, 세계속의 한국 청각학의 위치, 앞으로 발전해 나갈 방향등을 모색하는 데 도움이 되리라 생각된다. 따라서 본 저자는 세계 여러 지역권 중 유럽의 청각학 제도와 교육과정을 최근의 동향으로 살펴보고자 한다.
The origin of audiology, unlike other science subjects, was based on the needs of the society and still had firm grounds in clinical practices. Each country in Europe, however, had own audiology programs and certificates that reflected historical backgrounds and connection with related disciplines. These led to various audiology programs and certificates. Pros and cons of these systems in Europe were reviewed to get some insights as to the future directions of audiolgy.
