This article is study about symbolization of possession of Kagura, Japanese folk p e rforming a rts. Kagura is a typical folk performing art at the ritual of Japan. The purpose of ritual is generally communicate with God and man. One of the methods of the communication is a possession. It might be the most positive, immediate method to ask for god's intention. However, Possession phenomenon is hardly seen in the Kagura now. This a rticle e xtracted the part of the posse ssion in the Kagura from records of the past and the report and examined those symbolized devices. As for the possession phenomenon, a mental tension is accompanied in the Kagura. In the reason why the possession phenomenon decreases, a mental extreme above all tension might be accompanied, and Kagura reforms might be the major factors that are variously. It is a political reform of Yoshida Shintoism at appearance and the Meiji era. The case took up the Omoto Kagura, Bitchu Kagura, Shinto priest Kagura, Dozen Kagura, Bingo Kagura. The most is distributed in West Japan. God has become the object possessed a divine nature ancestors. And, there are a lot of funeral tools of the symbolical device used for possession. The device of possession is decided to some degree.
