현재 미술교육에서 화두가 되고 있는 시각문화는 단순히 새로운 영역이 첨가되거나 기 존의 것들을 새롭게 바라보는 것에 그치지 않고, 미술이 지닌 전통적인 개념과 의미, 분 류 체계, 영역 모두를 변화시키고 있다. 이러한 시각문화 시대에 가장 대표적인 특징이라 할 수 있는 디지털 미디어는 우리나라의 경우 생활 속에서 적극적으로 활용되고 있기 때 문에, 이를 통해 시각문화를 풀어가는 것이 가능하다 할 것이다. 그렇다면 2007년 개정 미술과 교육과정의 내용으로 제시된 시각문화(환경)를 초등 미술과에서 어떻게 전개해야 할 것인가가 중요 과제라 할 수 있는데, 초․중등 미술 교과용 도서 개발이 완료되는 시 점인 2011년에는 이러한 내용이 보다 본격적이고 구체적으로 논의될 것이라 여겨진다. 그 렇다면 2009 개정 교육과정에 의한 편제가 실시되고 있는 지금의 학교 현장에서 실시 가 능한 시각문화 및 디지털 미디어 관련 내용을 다양하게 구성해보는 일은 큰 의미가 있다 하겠다. 따라서 본 연구는 영상 시대를 살아가는 초등학생들이 다양한 시각문화와 디지털 미디어 등의 영상 미디어를 이해하고 이를 적극적으로 활용해봄으로써 영상 언어를 통해 자기표현을 증진시킬 수 있는 방안을 마련하는 데 목적을 두고, 초등 미술과 수업에서 활 용 가능한 수업안을 제시하였다.
Nowadays visual culture art education(VCAE) is suggested an alternative to visual arts education. Korean art educators paid attention to visual culture as an essential element of learning since the 7th Korean National Art Curriculum. In the 2007 Korean National Art Education, 'visual-culture environment' became one of the important contents of 'aesthetic experience'. By the way contemporary arts continue to blend and juxtapose various digital media which work on digital code, for example, Media Art, Interactive Art, High-Tech Art, Technology Art, Video Art, Web Art, Generative Art, Electronic Art, Computer Art, et al. This study placed emphasis on visual culture and its implication of digital media as distinct characteristics of visual culture. It is obviously very difficult for elementary students to apply actively any media as art media-art subjects-art methods, and thus the teaching plans suggested in this study may introduce them easy way to approach. The purpose of this study was to examine VCAE and digital media and to suggest teaching plans in order for elementary students to understand visual culture and apply digital media for their artworks. The recommendations for the study were follows: 1) more teaching plans on visual culture and digital media in art subject for elementary students should be developed and carried out for improving their expression, and 2) there should be more appropriate application and manipulation of digital media in elementary setting discussed and expanded.
