The explosive growth of mutual trade and investment over the past
decade has raised China\'s importance for the U.S. in several areas.
Especially \'China\'s Rise\' is making new world order as G-2 members with
U.S. In the area of nuclear proliferation, both countries have a same points
of view that any kind of proliferation could harm the stability of international
politics. However, in the case of North Korea, China has been faced with the
exquisite dilemma of trying to balance between propping up North Korea and
prodding the volatile regime to give up its nuclear weapons.
This paper scrutinizes the possibility and limits on the cooperation
between U.S. and China, especially dealing with both countries\' foreign
policies on the North Korea\'s nuclear proliferation. It views the security
cooperation between two countries could maximize their national interests as
well as provide a security stability in East Asia. However, in order to
achieve this goal, this article suggests that there are to be needed
preconditions such as clear definition for nonproliferation, punishment and
incentives for North Korea\'s nuclear development. Furthermore, U.S. and
China can cooperate in building East Asia Security Regime. To do this, this
article suggest that China needs more active role for promoting the
relationship between U.S. and North Korea.
