The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of group music therapy program through Modeumbooknori
on the Depression, anxiety and self-esteem of the junior-high school student in the Depression, tendency. The subject of
this study were 18 first grade students of D junior-high school in Busan. These students were selected among those who
had shown high scores on the Children's Depression Inventory(CDI) The students were divided with half allocated to the
experimental group and half to the control group, 9 students each. the experimental group was trained by group music
therapy program through Modeumbooknori for 90minutes a day, twice a week, in total 12 times for 8 weeks from November
8th to December 20th, 2003, while nothing was carried out on the control group. Scales used for this study were Self-Esteem
Inventory by Coopersmith, State Anxiety Inventory(STAI) of Spielberg, Children's Depression Inventory(CDI). The data was
analyzed by ANCOVA and SPSS 10.0 program. The results of the study were as follows. First, the group music therapy
program through Modeumbooknori reduced the junior-high school student's level of depression. Secondly, the group music
therapy program though Modeumbooknori reduced the junior-high school student's level of anxiety. Thirdly, the group music
therapy programs though Modeumbooknori increased the junior-high school student's level of self-esteem. Fourthly, the effect
of the programs was not consistently maintained until the follow-up test, 2 months after the completion of the training
program. The program developed for this study was proved to be effective to improve the Depression, Anxiety and
Self-esteem of the junior-high school student with the Depression tendency.
