The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of music autobiography activities on the self-perception and self-acceptance of the patients suffering from spinal cord injuries. This study has its object of the patients suffering from spinal cord injuries of K Hospital in Seoul, and 10 patients were arranged into an experimental group and a control group each; the music autobiography activities was performed to the experimental group while any therapy was not performed to the control group. This music autobiography activities program was performed singly 4 times, total 40 times for 60 minutes each time, every sessions were recorded and analysed. This program is divided into 4 steps in developmental order of life, and the patients were requested to reminisce freely any events, persons, relationships, or emotions in their life and to choose music which recall the certain memories. Also, listening, song discussion and
singing had been performed each sessions. This study used Self-Perception Scale for measuring self-perception and Self-Acceptance Scale to measure self-acceptance, and
they were performed before and after the therapy to both experimental and control groups. According to the result, first, the group that had the music autobiography activities showed meaningful improvement in the point of self-perception compared with that of the control group. Second, the group that had music autobiography activities showed meaningful improvement in the point of self-acceptance compared with that of the control group. Based on the these result, it is verified that the music autobiography activities should be effective in improving self-perception and self-acceptance of the patients suffering from spinal cord injuries.
