This study was done for analyzing color characteristics in the free drawing by the 'active imagination’ so as to verify alcoholic color characters. The participants were 235 alcoholics who have been suffered complications and its aftereffects for 5 to 40 years or so. Each 235 painting was put each color chip, and these chips were used as data. Analyzing items were the number of used color, cool colors, neutral colors, warm colors, achromatic colors, monochrome, rainbow colors. These items were verified and compared with former researches through seeing color characters, color image or psychological process. As study results, they preferred warm colors to cool colors in color preference, especially black and red were the
most. This showed that alcoholic emotional and psychological characters related to depression or suppressed aggression. High preference of deep blue as direct sign of depression should be marked. ’Color Shock,' or ’color bias' also showed in general monochrome or achromatic color expression, this aspect seemed to originated from brain damage or withdrawal from chronic alcoholism.
