목적 : 본 연구는 전동휠체어를 사용하는 중증장애인들을 대상으로 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 통하여 중증장애인들의 전동휠체어에 대한 사용경험과 전동휠체어에 대한 그들의 욕구를 알아보기 위해 실시하였다. 연구방법 : 전동휠체어를 사용하는 중증장애인 5명을 대상으로 포커스 그룹인터뷰를 실시하였다. 인터뷰에서 사용된 질문은 Krueger 와 Casey가 제시한 4 가지 질문방식을 기반으로 하였다. 인터뷰내용은 녹음하고 2명의 저자가 각각 전사하여 공통된 내용에 대해 합의하고 분석하였다. 결과 : 대상자들은 전동휠체어 구조물과 휠체어 자체의 결함, 사후관리서비스에 대한 문제점을 경험하였으며 이에 따라 전동휠체어의 추진 및 지지구조물, 중증장애인에 대한 평가 및 전동휠체어에 대한 처방을 포함하는 보조공학 서비스의 개선 및 확대를 원하고 있었다. 또한 전동휠체어에 대한 구입 및 사후관리 서비스에 대하여 국가차원에서의 현실적인 재정적 지원을 기대하고 있었다. 이에 따라 작업치료사는 전동휠체어 처방 시 휠체어 사용자가 속한 환경, 원하는 활동을 고려하여 적절한 휠체어 추진구조물을 제공해줘야 하고 사용자의 기능을 고려한 전동휠체어 착석옵션과 같은 지지구조물을 처방하여 중증장애인이 기능적 활동을 수행하도록 도와야 한다. 결론 : 본 연구는 전동휠체어 처방 시 작업치료사가 고려해야할 점을 제시했다는 점에서 의의가 있고 효율적인 보조공학 서비스를 위한 제도적 변화를 이끄는데 있어 기초적인 자료로 사용될 것이다.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to identify the needs and experiences of severely disabled people in using a powered wheelchair through a focus group interview. Methods : Five severely disabled people using a powered wheelchair were recruited. The interview employed a question-asking method modified from the question-asking method presented by Krueger and Casey. The contents of the interview were recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using Krueger’s principle. Results : The subjects experienced defects of the wheelchair itself, problems regarding the components of the powered wheelchair, and wheelchair follow-up service. Accordingly, they want to enlarge the assistive technology service involving a wheelchair user assessment and proper prescription, and improvements in the supporting and propulsion structure of a powered wheelchair. Financial support concerning powered wheelchair payments and expenses for a follow-up service are also expected. Occupational therapist are considering a wheelchair user belong to the environment, the desired activity and user’s function when wheelchair prescriptions must be provided proper propulsion component and support structure such as power seat function.
