\"The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of instruction with digital textbooks on the self-directed learning abilities and the VDT subjective symptoms of students with visual impairments. 10 subjects of this study were students with visual impairments in B School for the Blind in Busan and they belonged to the three grades in which three types of digital textbooks were available during the classes.
The results drawn from the data analysis were as follows: First, according to the results of a paired samples t-test concerning Self-directed Learning Abilities Test, scores from subtests of learning needs diagnosis, goal setting and selection of learning strategies, including total scores, were significantly different. Second, according to the results of a paired samples t-test concerning VDT Subjective Symptoms Test, scores from subtests, including total score, showed no significant difference. The results of this study can be a rationale for an extended development of digital textbooks appropriate for the students with visual impairments and, furthermore, can function as a fundamental data in creating and making use of digital textbooks for the special education.
