Objectives: This study examined the effectiveness of a marital relationship enhancement program based on Virginia Satir’s Transformational Systemic Therapy. Methods: Previous studies have concluded that communication and self-esteem are the largest contributing factors to marital success. The researcher examined these conclusions by studying the effects of a 9-session marital enhancement program grounded in Satir’s therapeutic approach. Pre- and post-intervention measures of communication skill, self-esteem, and marital satisfaction were gathered from the group receiving the program, as well as from a control group. Results: The marital-enhancement program effectively enhanced marital relationships, influencing both self-esteem and marital satisfaction. Conclusions: A Satir-based approach to marital enhancement is effective for resolving marital conflict. It could be used as a model for other programs attempting to promote marital health and satisfaction.
