The purposes of the current study was to investigate the effects of art therapy
programs on non-disabled siblings' levels of parent-child communication and
perceptions toward disability. Subjects of the study were 14 non-disabled siblings from
elementary schools and middle schools. They were randomly included for the
experimental group(7 persons) and the control group.(7 persons) For this study, 20 art
therapy program sessions (60mins~90mins) were implemented. Parent-child
communication openness examination and behavior rating scale were conducted to both
of the treatment and control groups before and after of the whole session. The result
of this study found that there were no statistically significant differences in the effect
of art therapy programs on parent-child communication and the levels of their
perceptions toward disability. However, the improvements were presented. Furthermore
qualitative approaches represented that there were important and positive differences
among 14 students who participated the art sessions. Finally limitation and suggestions
of future research were addressed.
