The purpose of this study is to analyze how the idea of liberty and equality is integrated in Rawls' justice theory.
Rawls presents contract argument to justify his theory. In other words, people of original position are likely choose Rawls' theory to make a profit on other own group by maxmin strategy under the veil of ignorance, which can be justified because of corresponding to a considered judgement shared generally.
Rawls' theory has a strong point in integrating the idea of liberty and equality through both the priority of liberty and the difference theory, but fundamentally shows the prejudice of liberal, capitalistic and welfare state.
But his theory is criticized by both the left and the right. In spite of this limitation, Rawls' theory is worthy of being applicable as one of alternatives for the capitalist state which has brought the deepening of economic inequality by the negative and formal liberalism.
In conclusion, we could characterize Rawls' theory as a practical fundamentals to provide the optimal basis of democracy for an equalitarian brand of liberal welfare state capitalism.
