This study investigated the effect of group art therapy on the young
children's social and emotional development. Subjects for the study were
18(experimental group of 9 and a control group of 9), 6-year-old children
who go to S kindergarten which is located in A city, Kyongsangbuk-do. The
group art therapy program ran for 15 sessions, twice a week, 90 minutes per
session from November 2, 2010 to December 29, 2010. The instruments for
this study used an social and emotional development rating scale. Data were
analyzed using a ANCOVA with a pre-test as covariance on SPSS WIN
19.0. The findings of this study are as follows. First, group art therapy
positively influenced young children's independence to a teacher. Second,
group art therapy positively influenced young children's sense of security in
kindergarten, and young children's achievement motivation. These findings
suggest that group art therapy was effective in improving their social and
emotional development.
