There are two ways to be a film teacher for secondary school students in Korea. One is to complete courses in teacher education at undergraduate level; the other is to finish the courses at postgraduate level due to no film subject at college of education. Firstly, the teaching courses at undergraduate level have started since 1955 in order to train teachers for secondary schools. At that time, there were not enough teachers in Korea. So this system helped to train many teachers. However, film teachers have been trained since 1999. It was quite late, compared with the other subjects. Secondly, the courses for film teachers at postgraduate level started in 2003 at Hanyang University. In particular, this paper examines some problems which appear in film teachers’ courses: integration of film and drama, running the course by similar subjects, lack of secondary schools for teaching practice, irregular teacher certification exam, and not enough teaching course.
