본 연구는 성인 지적장애인을 돌보는 노년기 어머니를 대상으로 그들이 인지하고 있는 지적장애 자녀의 기여 수준을 살펴보고, 장애자녀의 기여를 긍정적으로 인지하는데 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하여 사회복 지적 개입을 위한 함의를 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 이에 서울․경인 지역에 거주하는 만 18세 이상의 지적장 애인을 돌보는 어머니를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 자료를 수집하였고, 총 259부를 분석하였다. 연구결 과, 노년기 어머니들이 인지한 지적장애자녀의 기여 수준은 4점 만점에 1.91점으로 나타났고, 정서적인 기여와 일상적 기여에 비해 도구적 기여와 경제적 기여를 낮게 인지하고 있었다. 노년기 어머니가 인지한 장애자녀의 기여에 영향을 미친 요인으로는 장애에 대한 태도, 장애등급, 자조집단지지 순으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 노년기 어머니들이 장애자녀의 기여를 긍정적으로 인식할 수 있는 실천적 개입 방안을 제시하였다.
This study is to examine the elderly mother's perception on their intellectually disabled child's contribution level and to find out the elements that makes the perception on the role of the disabled children to mother positive, therefore the possibility of intervention by social workers can be suggested. This study was based on surveys targetting at mothers with intellectually disabled children who are less than 18 years old living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-Incheon area, which in total was 265 copies. The result of the study showed that the Mothers with the disabled children perceives their children makes contributions 1.91 out of 4 point scale. In detail, financial and instrumental contribution recorded lower score compared to contribution to emotional and daily living part. The elements that the mother perceives as contributory by having the intellectually disabled children include: attitude toward disabilities; severity of disability; support of self-help group. Based on this findings, this study aims at highlighting the significance of intellectually disabled children's making contribution to their caregiving mother, ultimately suggesting the ways to intervene so that the elderly mothers can have a positive perception on their intellectually disabled children.
