This paper examines how assumptions of a postmodern worldview relate to the premise and the clinical practice of narrative therapy. The narrative approach helps clients move from problem-saturated stories to more preferred ones. Narrative therapy gives primacy to meaning, interpretation and to the lived experience of the clients. Narrative cannot be constructed in isolation from the culture in which families originate. The only instrument in narrative therapy is narratives that evolve through our time and place. Therefore, if a Korean family therapist uses the narrative approach to therapy he/she has already situated his/her work within a Korean cultural milieu which determines how to organize Korean\'s experience. From this perspective narrative therapy practiced in Korea cannot be isolated from Korean language and culture. On the other hand, narrative therapy does not pursue the understanding of how the family is on the basis of preexisting normative criteria. Therefore narrative therapy is less affected by cultural differences compared to the model of therapy that uses those criteria. There seems to be a good chance of finding fitness of narrative therapy to Korean culture and demonstrating innovative ways of working with Korean families
