The archives created at museums encompass the overall processes including each and every aspect and systems, exhibitions, and the public relations function of museums which have made drastic growth in a short span of time. When it comes to the museum education archives, the troubles regarding the education using the collections and collecting and using the ever-increasing data are getting bigger.
Therefore, the archive data formed at the children exhibitions by the museum education department are in the process of taking systematic stages after perceiving that the scale of use will become bigger over time.
The purpose of this study is understanding the current states of the museum education archives compared with the concept of the existing museum archiving and the archives created at children exhibitions through the current conditions of archive establishment based on the Children s Museum of National Folk Museum of Korea. Moreover, this study will discuss the roles of the Center of Folklore Activities run by the National Folk Museum of Korea as the hub of the museum resources when the data of museum education have been added.
For the current status of the collection of museum education archives and exhibition archives and an accurate data record when it came to using the archive data, this study examined the cases which collected and organized analogue data. Furthermore, this study suggested in which domain the children exhibition by the museum education department archive, collecting and storing data, can form educational values by providing cases. The main objectives of the data being collected in the field of museum education can be summarized into long-term preservation, conciseness of management system , and enduring and ongoing values .
The things to prioritize when it comes to pushing the usefulness of archives toward a positive direction are seeking the priority and the establishment methods regarding what to archive among a number of data and constantly accumulating archive data. When referring to the list of the museum education data which are being transferred, they are mostly consisted of the digital images containing education sites and other data are being used independently within respective departments. In order to secure various uses of digital archives, the museum education archive information should be recorded systematically and the use in collections, education, and exhibitions should be managed comprehensively. When the potential value of use of the museum education archives is recognized and the data that took into account continuous value expansion are accumulated, museums can not only play the role of the site of education but also improve professionalism as the educational and cultural platform.
