The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of depression on ego- resilience and the mediating effects of grit and self-efficacy between depression and ego-resilience in Korean college students. To do this, self-report questionnaires were conducted to students at a university in Gyeonggi Province and 364 responses were analyzed. The depression scale, the self-efficacy scale, the grit scale, and the ego-resilience scale were used as the measurement tools in order to identify the relationship between depression and ego-resilience, and a hierarchical regression analysis was conducted using the SPSS 23.0 statistical program. As a result of this study, depression level of college students had significant negative impact on ego-resilience, and self-efficacy mediated the relationship between depression and ego– resilience. In addition, the Grit indicating long-term effort and enthusiasm mediated the relationship between depression and ego-resilience, which was found to have greater influence than self-efficacy. Therefore, in this study, the relationship between depression and ego-resilience and the mediating process of grit and self-efficacy were examined. These results empirically reveal the negative effects of the psychological crisis of college students on passion and willingness to overcome difficulties. In particular, depression negatively affects ego-resilience through low self-efficacy and grit. Based on this, further research is needed on the variables affecting depression and ego-resilience of college students.
