The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of young children s self-regulation on the relationship between mothers’ feeding guidance and their children’s eating behavior. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 283 mothers whose children were aged 3 and 5 years old (attending nine daycare centers in B city). The instruments used in this study were the Caregiver s Feeding Guidance Scale, Food Behavior Scale, and Self-Regulation Scale. Pearson’s correlation analyses were performed to examine relationships among the major variables. A multiple regression analysis (Baron & Kenny, 1986) and Sobel test were used to examine the mediating effects. Results indicated that young children’s eating behavior was negatively related to their mothers’ demandingness and positively related to their mothers’ responsiveness. In addition, there was a partial mediating effect of young children’s self-regulation on the relationship between mothers’ demandingness and their children’s eating behavior. On the other hand, there was a full mediation effect for young children’s self-regulation on the relationship between mothers’ responsiveness and their children’s eating behavior.
