The purpose of this study is to analyze the individual strength and family resilience of three main characters, the members constituting the family as an axis of resolving problems when they encounter crises and adversities in their growth process, utilizing a fairy tale, The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly(Leafie, A Hen into the Wild). In addition, this study aims to suggest that the data analyzed utilizing the fairytale should be provided as baseline data for application to various programs. The subject of this study is Hwang, Sun-mi’s The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly. As the analysis tools of the study, Peterson & Seligman’s scheme for VIA classification of character strength and Walsh’s family resilience elements, including belief system, organizational system pattern, and communication process were used. The research results are as follows: First, as the three main characters’ common virtues, the Key virtues of courage and humanity were found. As for personal strengths, the main character Leafie(Yipsak) had spirituality, gratitude, and hope. Wanderer (Nageune) had leadership, and Greenie (Chorok Hed) had patience. Second, the family maintained itself strong through the family belief, cooperation and support among the family members, open emotional expressions and cooperative problem-solving when they confronted crises and adversities. Lastly, based on the result of this study, it was suggested that it would be possible to develop and apply an education program for the improvement of strength and family resilience for families, parents, and children through studies of the strengths of the characters in the fairy tales, that have positive psychological values that are increasing today and family resilience.
