‘교육격차’연구에서 교육학자들 사이에 맥락의 혼동과 개념 혼란이 발생하고 있다. ‘교육학’에서‘교육격차’연구 문헌을 분석한 결과 교육격차’는 학업성취격차의 대체어로 사용 되거나 사회경제적 격차, 지역 간․계층 간 격차에 대한 사회학적 분석을 그대로 차용하여 설명되고 있었다. 이러한 맥락 속에서 ‘교육’은 사회적 지위획득과 계층이동, 사회 평등실현, 사회 불평등 문제 해결을 위한 수단으로 전락한다. ‘교육격차’논의를 정상화하기 위해서는 격차의 대상이 되는 교육이 무엇인지에 대한 타당한 인식이 선행되어야 한다. 이를 위해 교육본위론을 인용하여 교육격차의 개념 제건을 제언 하였다. 고유한 현상으로서 교육이 드러날 때 교육격차의 개념을 제대로 밝힐 수 있으며, 이것이 가능할 때 교육학 자체의 발전은 물론 타 분야나 대중의 요구에 정체성을 가지고 자신만의 목소리를 낼 수 있을 것이다.
In the ‘education gap’ study, there is confusion among educators about context and concepts. According to the “education gap” study, “education gap” is used as a substitute for various school-related differences, such as academic achievement, educational background gaps. It is explained by borrowing the socio-economic gap, sociological analysis of gaps between regions and classes. In this context, ‘education’ becomes a means for acquiring status, moving classes, realizing social equality, and solving social inequality problems. For the study of the ‘education gap’ we need to figure out what ‘education’ is. To know the concept of the “education gap,” one should know the unique phenomenon, “education.”
