This study attempted to re-conceptualize the idea of Kyohaksangjang(교학상장) introduced in Hakgi(학기) in Yegi(예기) from the endogenous theory of education advocated by Sangho Chang. Previous researches were categorized into traditional research that tried to interpret the original text in the socio-political context and modern research that applies it to school situation. Literature reviews showed that all the previous studies had limits in that they regarded education as a means to other things such as academic development, socialization, and character education, without identifying the structure of education as an independent autonomous human activity. However, the endogenous theory of education, which argues that education should be understood as a human activity possessing the autonomous structure and intrinsic values, shed a new light on the interpretation of Kyohaksangjang. In the case of teaching and learning as activities done by one subject, ascending education and descending education are to be strengthened by each other, to be intrinsically appreciated by anybody and at any place if only some rules for them are followed. Also, in case of two subjects doing teaching and learning respectively, those participating ascending education and descending education can pursue the intrinsic values of them continuously through meta-education, and walk toward educational growth together.
