In order to enhance international competitiveness, the Chinese government has implemented a human resources strategy centered on reforming higher education, and has made steady efforts to cultivate talented individuals. As a result, higher ducation in China is developing not only quantitatively, but also qualitatively. This study examined the development of higher education institutional evaluation policies and systems to ensure the quality of higher education in China. Specifically, based on the analysis of changes in the evaluation policies of China s tertiary education institutions and the quality assurance system, the details of theitems, indicators, and types of tertiary education institutional evaluations were examined. Against this background, I would like to discuss the implications of Korea s higher education evaluation system and the improvements in China s higher education evaluation policy and system. This paper thus aims to improve the understanding of China s higher education evaluation system by examining the contents of government policies, the characteristics of each evaluation type, and the detailed items and indicators.
