This study aimed to investigate the mediating effect of positive emotions on the relationship between the grit and learning flow of Chinese high school students. For this purpose, 318 Chinese high school students were selected to complete a survey. A correlation analysis was performed to check for any correlations among the variables. Using the procedures suggested by Baron and Kenny in 1986, a hierarchical multiple regression was conducted to measure the mediating effect of positive emotions on the relationship between grit and learning engagement.
The results were as follows: First, there were significant correlations among grit, positive emotions, and learning engagement. Second, positive emotions exerted a partial mediating effect on the relationship between grit and learning flow. These results suggest that grit and positive emotions can play an important role in increasing high school students learning engagement.
